American Turquoise Beads

Our inventory includes beautiful Turquoise beads from the Sleeping Beauty and Fox Mines. These mines are no longer producing rough stone to be cut into beads and cabochons for the jewelry industry. The Sleeping Beauty mine closed in 2012, while the Fox mine has been closed since 1992. The Turquoise from these mines is highly sought after for its distinctive colors. Due to the diminishing supply of these delightful beads, prices are rising and will only increase with time. So, come take them home now, before they are gone!!!

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise comes from Globe, Az. It usually comes in a robin's egg blue and is the most recognized name in turquoise. The mine ceased turquoise mining operations in 2012 and has been taken over by a copper mining company. Turquoise will not be coming out of this mine in the foreseeable future, however, there are still large quantities in the hands of dealers that will be slowly processed into strands and cabs for the jewelry market. The result of these changes and ongoing popularity in European markets will drastically increase the value of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise over time.

When the Chinese bead manufacturers began dyeing magnesite and misrepresenting it as turquoise, this is the color they tried to emmulate.

Fox

Fox Turquoise is from the Crescent Valley in Nevada. The mine has not been in operation since the 1980s and officially closed in 1992. The strands that Thomason Stone Supply carries come from a personal collection of a long-time turquoise dealer. The supply of this turquoise is extremely limited. Fox Turquoise has a distinctive color that ranges from a teal blue to a deep green with an unusual matrix.
